The next chapter of Risk of Fate

What's new

The rivalry you remember, rebuilt for today's PCs. Take a look at the work already behind the next chapter.

Built so far

The foundations have changed.

These milestones are built and tested in development. Public release preparations are still under way.

Client · Built & tested

A modern home for a familiar world.

The client now runs as a native 64-bit application, with room to use the memory available on modern Windows PCs.

Rendering now runs through DirectX 12. It's the foundation for the visual upgrades still to come.

The client's ageing DirectX 8, DirectInput and DirectSound code has been retired.

Server · Built & tested

Rebuilt around performance.

A new game and login server, written in Rust. Performance, reliability and safe handling of game state are at the heart of the rebuild.

The modern client now plays on the rebuilt server, with its live gameplay checks passing in development.

Testing · Completed rehearsal

Put through its paces.

The server has been exercised with up to 5,000 simulated players, including reconnects and database stalls.

A development load test, not a promise of live server capacity.

Client · Built & tested

Care in the details.

Texture handling and UI memory fixes are part of the client rebuild. Movement, combat, shops, chat and zone travel have been tested in playable development sessions.

Installation · Built & tested

Ready for the next update.

Signed installation and update tools can check game files, repair an interrupted installation and roll back an update when needed.
